The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of May 2018, was warmer than normal in temperatures with below average relative humidities, precipitation and wind speed.

The mean temperature of the month was 31.5°C which is 1.7°C above the long-term normal.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 36.4°C which is 2.3°C above the long-term normal. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 42.9°C which occurred on the 12th of May at Bahrain International Airport.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 27.5°C which is 1.5°C above the long-term normal. The lowest temperature recorded was 25.5°C set on the 4th of May at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 22.9°C on the 21st of May at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for May was 46% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 68% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 25%.

Only trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on 3rd, 9th, 10th, 17th and 19th of May at the Bahrain International Airport where the long-term mean total precipitation for the month of May is 1.1 mm. The highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during May was 12.7 mm which occurred on May 1907.

The total precipitation for May 2018 at King Fahd Causeway 0.8 mm was recorded on 10th of May.

Northwesterly to Northerly winds accounted 52% with gusts reaching 34 knots on the 10th of May at Bahrain International Airport. But reached 43 knots on the same day at Durrat Al Bahrain.

Dust affected the Kingdom of Bahrain on the 12th of May reduced the visibility to 1000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
