Air transport links between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Australia have been further strengthened with the signing of a Protocol to amend the Air Transport Agreement between the two countries.

His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board has signed the protocol amending the bilateral air transport agreement that was signed in 1995.

The protocol will contribute to developing and streamlining the organization of air transport between the two countries. The protocol was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation’s Civil Aviation Affairs by His Excellency, and on behalf of the Government of Australia by Non-resident Australian Ambassador to Bahrain His Excellency Neil Hawkins.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Transportation said “We are confident that this latest signing will result in a positive impact on the air transport sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Agreements such as these will help our national carrier to boost its alliance arrangements and support future planning of operations to Australasia and the Pacific Ocean.”

On his part, His Excellency the Australian Ambassador lauded this move to provide the air carriers of both countries a framework for enhanced cooperation in the field of air transport.

The protocol contains new provisions and some major amendments made in accordance with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) within the Kingdom of Bahrain’s overall strategy to adopt international standards in the air transport industry.
