The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of March 2021 was warmer than normal in temperatures and below-average precipitation.

The mean temperature of the month was 23.1°C which is 1.8°C above the long-term normal for March and this goes on record as the fourth-highest mean monthly temperature for March since 1902 and exceeded by March 2018 with a record of 24.6°C, March 1969 with a record of 24.2°C and March 2010 with a record of 23.7°C.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 27.7°C which is 2.2°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the fourth-highest mean maximum temperature for March since 1946. This is the same as March 2002 and exceeded by March 2018 with a record of 29.6°C, March 1969 and 2008 with a record of 28.8°C and March 2010 with a record of 28.3°C.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 40.0°C which occurred on the 18th March at Bahrain International Airport and this goes on record as the highest temperature for March since 1946 at Bahrain International Airport. The old record was 38.1°C recorded on 29th March 1998.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Bahrain International Circuit was 40.2°C on the 18th March.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 19.5°C which is 1.4°C above the long-term normal and this goes on record as the sixth-highest mean minimum temperature for March since 1946. Note that the highest mean monthly minimum temperatures recorded in Bahrain for March was 20.7°C occurred in 2018.

The lowest temperature recorded was 14.8°C set on the 15th March at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 12.9°C on the 14th March at Bahrain International Circuit.

The mean relative humidity for March was 55% whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 74% and the mean minimum relative humidity was 34%. The maximum relative humidity was 93% recorded on the 2nd March and the minimum relative humidity was 9% recorded on the 18th March.

Trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on the 1st and 2nd March at Bahrain International Airport. Note that the long-term mean total precipitation for March is 14.7 mm and the highest monthly rainfall ever recorded during March at Bahrain International Airport was 139.2 mm which occurred in 1995.

March 2021 was the second sunniest month for all March since the sunshine records began in 1968. The total hours of sunshine for the month was 303.2 hours and only exceeded by March 2018 which was 324.3 hours.

The Mean wind speed for March was 11 knots. The prevailing wind was 44% from the Northwest direction.

Dust storm was reported on the 12th March reduced the visibility to 20 meters at Bahrain International Airport. The maximum wind gust was 52 knots and this goes on record as the highest maximum wind gust speed for March since 1974. The old record was 47 knots set on the 12th March 1993.
